Program Fees
Affordable and flexible, we try to make Travel Alive programs accessible to all. A large percentage of our program fees go directly to the local community where you will be living and working in the form of salaries for teachers, support staff, local administrators, and income for home-stay families. Fees also support outreach and recruiting in the United States, Canada, and throughout the world. Click to see a typical breakdown of fee distribution in our Nicaragua program.
Wherever you decide to volunteer, local people will benefit not only from your financial contributions, but also from increased exposure to the world through you and your shared experience.
Included in your program cost*:
- Spanish classes in Ocotal, Nicaragua (3-4 hours a day Monday - Friday†) & optional intensive Spanish classes in Ecuador, prior to volunteer assignment or internship
- Volunteer and cultural activities‡
- Home-stay with a family or group lodging
- Daily meals except in a few Ecuadorian projects
- International Health and Accident Insurance during your program§

* The services listed here are examples of services provided in a Travel Alive program. Because of the dynamic nature of volunteering, international study and travel, and changing and world conditions ( i.e., travel, weather, politics, economy, etc.) your program may include some or all of the listed features and possibly more. We recommend that you carefully read our terms and conditions before deciding on a Travel Alive program.
† Spanish language study is an integral part of the Ocotal, Nicaragua program. In Ecuador, language study can be included as a part of your program, but usually involves intensive study for two or more weeks in Quito prior to traveling to your volunteer assignment. In Ocotal, the Volunteer, Language & Cultural Studies Program and Self-Directed Volunteer Project with Language Study Program each include 3-4 hours of Spanish classes, the Advanced Language Immersion Program includes 3-4 hours of Spanish classes in the morning and additional hours of Spanish study in the afternoon.
‡ Daily volunteer and cultural activities vary depending on where you are living, the focus of your volunteer activities, the availability of work, and other factors. They may also be dependent on the season, weather, availability of other workers, holidays, or any other variables.
§ Insurance is provided by an independent insurance provider. Travel Alive will insure all volunteers for the duration of their visit. Upon registration we will provide you with details of this insurance program. We will also provide insurance contact information in case you would like to increase the level of protection during your program, or if you would like to add insurance protection for travel before or after your Travel Alive program.
** Programs are offered for a minimum of 2 weeks
